Here’s what the Couch had to say …
Neeka*LadiiLike*Lawson: DAMN SKIPPY! I just want to let you know, us “regular” PEOPLE aint sitting around bitching about Oscars and Grammys. We bitching bout these bills and bullshit court dates we have, worrying about our broke down ass cars, and child support, looking for jobs and can’t find one. You know, REAL PEOPLE problems. We don’t know a damn thing about a fu–ing Oscar and quite frankly we don’t give a f–k either. Them rich people “problems” right there. If I had the paper yall do I wouldnt give two f–ks and a bag of doritos about being acknowledged! Acknowledge these muthaf–in greenbacks.
EdibleBlackCat: Love you Janet Hubert you’re not bitter, you’re keeping it real.
Yaya’s Toy: It’s so revealing that the majority of Will Smith’s films have either very “light” skinned Blactressess or (most of the) white female counterparts. So with the constant dismissal of dark Blactressess (and by inference dark women) from such juicy paychecks it is ridiculous for Mrs. Smith to call upon these very same Blactressess to support her perceived disrespect of her disrespectful husband! JMHO
James : Seems pretty rich that Will Smith a millionaire many times over with a Black President and he being a very powerful head of his own production company would dare complain about ANYTHING being unfair. Maybe the “Smith” family needs to Google “Jiggers” and see what is really unfair. The money the Smith family consumers daily could feed, house, and supply relief from this horrible parasite for an African Village. You want to meet a REAL Black man? Check out Kenya’s Jim Nduruchi at Killthejigger.org
Temper : I totally agree with you Janet. There is nothing more nauseating than hearing super-privileged, arguably talentless (so-called actors) wine about pseudo social injustices. The Oscars are awarded to those who are the most talented in their category, including cinematography, direction, make-up, screenwriting, etc…There just weren’t any radicalized candidates to choose from this past year – but hopefully there will be next time around now bleeding-heart George Clooney (another overinflated actor) has jumped on the bandwagon. Is his ego so in need of stroking that he has to resort to this latest campaign? JPS and GC don’t know what it is to live off of Kraft dinner while they await auditions. Maybe they should just try a little harder to be grateful for what they have accomplished in Hollywood so far since it looks like their glory days are behind them.
Malcolm: Wait a minute, why didn’t Will Smith speak on police brutality… because that’s a big no- no. But when it comes to something that involves him and his family all of sudden there is an outrage…
David: Malcolm … and what is the causality of such police brutality? The media perhaps? Where the portrayal of black feud with the white racist, bigots and police alike? Open your eyes tom…
Fred : Dignity?? You’re a B list actress (at best), and not especially attractive either . . . not compared to the looks and talent of so many other black actresses that actually HAVE dignity and grace. Dignity? SMH! Jada, being black is not carte blanche for 24/7 entitlement to whatever you FEEL you deserve above and beyond the rest of the fellow actors and entertainers, and PLEASE. . STOP invoking Martin Luther King Jr! He rolls over in his grave every time one of you whiny, race card carrying “blacktivists” dishonor his achievement of African American integration & civil rights leader in this nation! The man DIED fighting for your civil rights and the God given right to be as cherished and honored as an American citizen . . . regardless of color, religion, belief, creed or background and you . . . . You sit there demanding segregation AGAIN?! Are you really that stupid? Do your race and all Americans a favor, grow up, shut up and start acting like an honorable citizen in the greatest country on Earth. Just shut up, and be an AMERICAN!!
PS: If you want an Oscar, than turn in an Oscar worthy performance!! USE your millions of $$$$, create a film and stun the world! Work for it . . . like everyone else in the business has to!
Angela : Unfortunately, your statement is true. It IS about Black & White in America right now. The majority of our American history derives from these two racial groups, Blacks and Whites have a deeply intertwined relationship in the US. This history is very long and most parts of it very painful; in 2016 the issue of Black vs White still hasn’t been cleared up, inequality still exists. Until we have a society that sees its Black citizens as valuable as White citizens, we will have the BET and NAACP Awards. Black History Month will still be a part of our children’s education. Should we start to celebrate the histories of other minorities? Absolutely! But I feel that because America is so young and its Black history is so rich and so profound; and our contribution to the successes of our country so immense, the month was chosen as a better way to highlight that success. This was done so that little Black children would feel that we did more than just be an enslaved people, we have so many accomplishments to be proud of. It would be wonderful to see the day when there is no need for a month to celebrate, but for right now, this is what White America has allowed in school curriculum. It is wrong for other minorities to condemn another race for standing up and fighting for equality and rights. Black people started the Civil Rights movement after years of slavery, rape, public whippings, severe maltreatment and abuse, after years of lynching’s, menial jobs, even job denial due to skin color, years of poverty, less educational opportunities, economic disadvantage, these things are still happening today. Everything is Black and White because America made it that way.
badgalbynes : I’m sorry but do black people realize they are a MINORITY? Black people are about, what, 13% of the population in the U.S.? When you consider how many black people are actors, the numbers get even smaller. So to always expect a black person to get a nomination is not only ridiculous but unrealistic. It’s not about discrimination it’s just common sense.
